Corona – goes viral!

When I was lad one highlight of each week was the regular appearance of a Corona lorry making its door to door deliveries of fizzy drink in a variety of flavours. Corona was the brainchild of two Pembrokeshire men, William Thomas and William Evans who launched a company in the late 1800s, producing soft drinks in response to the temperance movement which swept much of Britain at the time.

The two men built up a network of depots across Britain with a fleet of horse drawn wagons delivering child-friendly flavoured fizzy drinks door to door – flavours such as Orangeade, Dandelion & Burdock, Raspberryade, Lemonade, Ginger Beer, Cider Apple, Cream Soda and Tango. Little did Messrs Thomas and Evans or their customers of the 20^th Century realise that the name ‘Corona’ would eventually come to symbolise one of the most contagious and potentially lethal pathogens of the modern era.

Today, as stock markets around the world go into melt-down; as millions of people strip bare the shelves of their local supermarkets through panic buying; and as politicians struggle to reassure their apprehensive and worried electorate; we see people increasingly staying indoors and venturing out reluctantly for necessities only, increasingly masked, nervously avoiding physical contact, and making regular visits to washrooms and toilets to sanitise their hands.

The world is in the grip of a viral pandemic of the proportions normally only seen in horror movies, and we all begin to realise that in a ‘global village’; in which intercontinental travel has been promoted as the height of sophistication; and in which multiculturalism and multiracialism is regarded as de rigour, ‘conventional wisdom’ has been turned on its head.

I can remember sex education lessons in which it was pointed out to me as a young man that when we have sex with someone other than a virgin, from the perspective of sexual hygiene and the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases, we are not just having sex with that one individual, we are metaphorically having sex with everyone that sexual partner has ever had sex with before, and every one that has previously had sex with our sexual partner’s previous sexual partners. In short, when we have sex with a non-virgin, we are having sex with the whole world, and this same principle applies when we consider social interactions in a multicultural, multiracial environment — one where the right to travel and migrate from continent to continent is a given.

When we live in such a socially promiscuous, geographically mobile, multicultural society, we are having social relations with the whole world – and just as a sexually promiscuous person exposes them self to the inevitability of contracting a sexually transmitted disease, so we if we are socially promiscuous, are exposing ourselves to the inevitability of being engulfed by a viral pandemic.

The World Health Organisation have recently declared that the COVID-19 epidemic is now a global pandemic and as world leaders have been slow to react, we now face a future in which the pandemic cannot realistically be contained, especially if we wish to perpetuate the socially promiscuous, geographically mobile, multicultural model of society that globalists have eagerly encouraged in recent times.

Social commentators sometimes talk of the ‘Six Degrees of Separation’, referring to the fact that virtually everyone on planet Earth can be linked to anyone else through just six steps of social interaction, and in a world in which the highly contagious Corona virus is at large, we quickly realise that five months after the virus was first discovered in Wuhan, the number of people already infected will be enormous and containment will be impossible.

If there was a reasonable prospect that a vaccination could be made widely available within the next three months, it might be possible to prevent the spread of the Corona virus, but medical experts tell us that a vaccine is still 12 to 18 months away and so we must accept that the Corona virus will eventually infect everyone with the exception of the few individuals that are able to remain completely isolated from the rest of the world’s population. Indeed, Boris Johnson’s message to our nation following Thursdays COBRA meeting indicates that far from trying to prevent the spread to the virus, government plans are intended merely to slow down the spread sufficiently to prevent the NHS from being overwhelmed by the numbers of sufferers needing treatment at any one time. This is what the Prime Minister was referring to with his ‘squashing the sombrero’ analogy in reference to the ‘bell shaped’ disease impact graph.

Sir Patrick Vallance, the governments Chief Scientific Officer, has reportedly stated, it is “impossible” for a country to  self-isolate its entire population. He explained that government policy is not aimed at eliminating the virus, which is impossible, but merely at slowing its transmission and allowing enough of us who are going to get the mild form of the illness to become immune, and in this way prevent the virus from causing repeated, disruptive and damaging epidemics each year.

The Prime Minister is not going to apply the ‘lock-down’ measures employed in other countries, because he almost certainly knows and understands the cold, hard truth that the inevitable spread of the virus cannot be prevented, and that going into ‘lock-down’ simply means that our economy will  grind to a halt for several weeks, unnecessarily adding economic catastrophe to whatever else we may suffer.

Those who are still urging the Prime Minister to apply ‘lock-down’ measures in an attempt to contain the virus have not yet come to terms with the fact that ‘the horse’ has already ‘bolted’ and there is therefore no point in closing the ‘stable door’. They are living in denial and we must now all face up to the fact that we are all going to get the virus and that we will all suffer the inevitable consequences. As the Prime Minister said following the recent COBRA meeting, “I must level with you, many families, many more families are going to lose loved ones before their time.”

Current statistics indicate that of those infected with the virus, roughly 20% will get the more severe form, and that of those unfortunate people, roughly 10% will die. This means that in the UK roughly 1.5 million people may die this year ‘before their time’ from the effects of the Corona virus. These will primarily be those over the age of seventy, with impaired lung function, impaired heart function or impaired immunity. Those who are young and healthy should survive and may only suffer mild symptoms. Some may not even realise they have had the disease, but we should all prepare ourselves for the fact that many of our elderly relatives may not live long enough to celebrate Christmas 2020.

Let us hope that the eventual death toll is not as great as current statistics indicate, but in the months that lie ahead, we should make our peace with our elderly relatives and make them aware just how much they are loved.

Let us also make what preparations we can to mitigate the effects of the virus and maximise our chances of survival:

We know that Corona virus produces disproportionately severe symptoms in the elderly and those with compromised immune systems. For people in this category it is of great importance that they limit their exposure to infection, stay indoors as much as possible and avoid contact with the public at large especially anyone exhibiting the symptoms of the virus – fever, a dry cough and shortness of breath.

The virus is known to attack the lining of the lungs leading to pneumonia. The lungs gradually fill with fluid and sufferers have difficulty breathing, and in instances where it proves fatal, die from a lack of oxygen.

With the NHS stretched to capacity there may not be sufficient intensive care beds available. Hopefully the Army will be drafted in to set up field hospitals on requisitioned land following the example of the Chinese, but if not, victims of the virus may need to self-medicate at home. It would be prudent therefore to take the precaution of buying oxygen cylinders and masks where possible to boost oxygen intake during periods that our lungs may be compromised. I would also suggest stocking up on paracetamol and antiseptic/anaesthetic throat sprays. Not enormous quantities, but enough to last a month.

As a precaution I would also suggest taking regular vitamin C and E and zinc supplements as these are believed to boost immunity and enhance recovery from lower respiratory tract infections. I would also begin taking daily moderate exercise, sufficient to cause heavy breathing, to clear our lungs of any mucus that might ordinarily accumulate there through inactivity.

As I have already stated, we must resign ourselves to the inevitability that we will all eventually contract the Corona virus. For most of us however, the virus will cause only temporary discomfort and will pass without any lasting ill-effects, but for those who belong to the higher risk groups, your aim and our collective aim must be to delay your exposure to the virus and to ensure your survival to the point at which a vaccine becomes available. If you have anyone in your family or in your neighbourhood, or in your circle of friends who falls into one of the higher risk groups, look out for them and offer them assistance in avoiding infection, and should they contract the virus, fight their corner to ensure they get the prompt medical attention they need.

Let us all remain vigilant, but keep calm and care for each other and hopefully the worst case scenario will not manifest and this time next year we will be able to look back at this troubling time with great relief.
