Jared Taylor is the world-renowned American race-realist who runs the “American Renaissance” organisation. Here, in this interview, he discusses race, IQ, the fate of the West…and more.
1. Your latest book is called “White Identity.” What is white identity?
If there actually were such a thing as white identity, it would be the equivalent of spontaneous fellow-feeling that people of other races have for each other. It would be similar to the sense of racial solidarity that characterizes American or British blacks, for example.
I reply in the subjunctive mood because whites are the only race that does not have a sense of racial identity. Every other race and even ethnic group has a clear sense of its interests and does not hesitate to advance those interests. I believe that if whites are unable to rekindle the sense of their interests that was once universal among them, they will be dispossessed by other groups that have a very keen sense of their own interests.
The most obvious form of dispossession is to give up one’s homeland to aliens. All majority-white countries, with the possible exception of Iceland, have admitted large numbers of non-white immigrants who are a clear threat to national identity.
I wrote White Identity to encourage and promote racial consciousness among whites. The book is mainly about the United States, but the message is a universal one. Readers in Britain or Norway or Australia will find the book addressed as much to them as to Americans.
2. We can all agree that the last few decades have seen European Western Man lose his way. Why do you think this has happened?
This is the great, unanswered question of our age. I have tried to reason it out and I have failed. A number of historical factors helped us lose our way, but they do not add up to a real explanation. For example, it is possible to trace a profound dispiritedness among whites back to the First World War. Many Europeans were shocked that the people of their civilization had unleashed such horrible slaughter on themselves. An entire generation lost faith in Europe because of the war.
The Second World War had a similar effect, to which was added the fact that the defeat of fascism discredited militant nationalism. Some people would add that certain Jewish movements have actively tried to undermine the moral foundations for white racial consciousness. Others blame the universalist teachings of Christianity, which are not usually interpreted as permitting national or racial distinctions: we are all equal before God.
I do not think these explanations are sufficient, even in combination. We have an instinctive loyalty to family, to those with whom we are genetically close. Our race is our extended family, and its boundaries are marked by clearly visible physical traits. For an entire race to have lost this sense of kinship, to have lost sight of boundaries, is without historical precedent.
For whatever reason, most whites have completely lost the ability to say to non-whites, “This is our nation (or neighborhood or institution) and we will keep it for ourselves and our descendants.” Unless we regain this ability, whites and their civilization will not survive. We have built some of the most pleasant and successful societies in the history of the world, so it is natural that people from failed societies would want to come live with us. Because we have lost the ability to abide by racial boundaries, we run the risk of being overrun.
It is clear from their actions that whites do not want to be overrun. They do not willingly live among non-whites, nor do they marry or socialize a great deal with them. However, most would be unwilling to admit this, and since they are unable to articulate even the most basic principles necessary for their survival, they do not have the will to maintain white majorities, whether locally or nationally.
In this respect, whites are “too nice.” They are unable to deny to non-whites what must be denied. Non-whites are different. It is impossible to imagine India or Algeria letting in large numbers of racial aliens or—yet more absurdly—instituting government-sponsored preference programs for these aliens.
Without a racial identity, whites will never be able to act together to ensure our continuation as a people. Once we are pushed aside or reduced to minorities in what were once our homelands, our culture, our history, our folkways, our stories, our songs, our heroes, our heritage will all be forgotten. Our civilization can be carried forward only by the biological heirs of the people who created it.
3. In a recent video interview you gave during the Amren 2012 conference, you said that the first step all European nations must take to preserving their integrity is to halt immigration. Assuming this could be done, is it not true that the sheer numbers of Third Worlders already legally resident in most European nations will inevitably (due to their higher fecundity) become the majority anyway? What can be done?
This is a serious problem. However, a healthy government could take some basic measures to ensure national-racial continuity. It would not be difficult to encourage all illegal immigrants to leave. If they are denied employment and welfare, most will go home. Those who do not can be sent home. It would also be possible to strip anyone with dual citizenship of his European citizenship. Immigrants who have become European citizens could be offered money to renounce citizenship and return home. At the same time, there could be subsidies to encourage child-bearing by native European.
All these measures are practical and humane. They are obvious first steps to ensuring European majorities. In the current political climate, of course, no European country will take them, since they require that essential missing ingredient: white identity.
4. You are very familiar with the Japanese and Japanese culture. What is the secret of their success? Is it true that they have started to allow non-Japanese immigration?
You are asking the wrong question. The Japanese are no different from the Chinese or Koreans or Malaysians or Iranians or Mexicans or any other non-white people. They refuse dispossession. The real question is not what is the secret of their success but what is the secret of our failure—and as noted above I am baffled by that secret.
It is true that Japan has begun to allow some immigration, but the numbers are very small. Japan has an extremely low birthrate, and faces much international pressure to admit immigrants, but most Japanese would far rather cope with a declining population than see their country overrun with Filipinos and Iraqis. The Japanese are normal; we are crazy.
5. Many claim that it is insulting to talk about race and IQ. Do you feel insulted about the fact that some East Asian peoples have higher IQs on average than Europeans? If not, why not?
“Comparisons are odious,” my grandmother used to say, and she was right. Comparisons of different races and their IQs are particularly odious, but we are forced to make those comparisons. That is because whenever blacks or Arabs or Latin Americans live among whites they are unable to achieve white level economic success. They then accuse whites of “racism,” and to the extent that whites believe this, they feel guilty and set up schemes to discriminate against their own people.
It is clear that different groups have different average levels of IQ, and that this largely accounts for differences in achievement. Even if they know this to be true, most whites are incapable of saying so openly. Again, they are too “nice.” They are afraid to hurt feelings, but they must hurt feelings if there is to be justice in multi-racial societies. Until whites are able to speak openly of racial differences, they will be blamed for the failures of non-whites.
In my experience, most whites are more open to the idea that they have a lower average IQ than Asians than to the idea that they have a higher average IQ than blacks. This is another strange trait. Most groups clutch at even the flimsiest excuses for thinking themselves better than others. Think of rivalries between colleges or cities or sports teams or political parties. It is normal to puff up one’s own group and cry down others. And yet, when it comes to race, whites are afraid to think well of themselves. This is part of the lack of white identity I noted earlier.
As for North Asians, I believe it is a fact of nature that they are smarter, on average, than whites. I believe it is a fact of nature that West Africans are better sprinters and East Africans are better distance runners than whites. It is not a question of being insulted but of better understanding our world. I believe that knowledge is always better than ignorance, and that we should pursue the truth wherever it leads.
6. Could you tell us what your purpose is with Amren and the New Century Foundation: what would you like it to achieve/have achieved?
Their purpose is the same as that of my latest book, White Identity: to wake up white people all around the world to the crisis of dispossession they face. AR and NCF are devoted to the legitimate group interests of whites. Although education and politics often go hand in hand, American Renaissance is primarily an educational organization rather than a political movement.
7. We all understand that without political power, there is little we can do about the situation. What are your views of political action.
I agree that unless whites are able to assert their rights politically, they face oblivion. For political action to be successful there has to be educational preparation, which has been the purpose of American Renaissance. It does no good to run white-advocacy candidates if no part of the electorate understands race.
I think that certainly in the United States and in many European countries, there has been enough education about race for explicitly white candidates to succeed. I have toyed with the idea of running for office, but have never done so and probably never will. Some people have a personality or turn of mind that is suitable for politics but I think I do not.
Whites in the English-speaking world have been woefully behind our continental cousins. Virtually every European nation has a party of what is called the “extreme Right,” that works for national, cultural, and ethnic continuity, even if not in so many words. In America, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, we have virtually nothing. In Britain, the BNP was poised for a breakthrough, but appears to be tearing itself apart.
In the United States, at least, I believe the times are promising for racially conscious white candidates at local levels. There is no reason why attractive whites cannot be elected to such offices as city council or school board. It is a mystery to me why so few candidates have come forward.
There is a mood of frustration among whites that, I believe, is waiting for a way to express itself. Illegal immigration, racial preferences, the transformation of the United States into a Third-World country—these cause justifiable anger that could be tuned into high levels of support for moderate, pro-white candidates.
However, such candidates should run for offices they have a chance of winning. I do not believe in symbolic and futile campaigns for President of governor. We must start small, and not be afraid of the hard, often boring work of stuffing envelopes, canvassing neighborhoods, and speaking to even the smallest audiences.
I am not among those who think salvation will come through catastrophe, that when the world economic system collapses white racial consciousness will somehow sprout from the ruins. We must work within the economy and the political system we have, and not pray for either miracles or catastrophe. The deck is heavily stacked against us, but our goal is, I believe the most noble one for which any of us can work: the survival of our people.

Well I think you could argue that the “natives” were there first & their racial type broadly dominated the continent from top to bottom but they are much diminished now.
The argument is what America is to be now, which is what it wasn’t.
Whites are a fairly recent addition but shaped modern America.
But that argument could be had with Europe also if you went far enough back, there wouldn’t be any humans there.
But us whites regard it as an ancient homeland & other races can claim theirs elsewhere.

Steve – White Americans on the Amren website sometimes mention this possibility themselves, but it really is a counsel of despair. White people (well, actually white British people) created America, its culture, institutions and infrastructure. It is their homeland, why on earth should they submit to dispossession and surrender it to racial aliens? No surrender! Stand and fight until there is no hope left and then – fight on!

Demographics are going against them, we have more historical claim to Europe.

What is happening to the white tribes is horrible but perfectly natural. If the dodo, who were wiped out by the stronger human race, were capable of feelings at a collective level they would surely have thought so too. In essence it is only because of our advanced intellectual state that we humans have difficulty taking one on the chin from mother nature, whereas animals just accept their fate. They did/do not feel or understand.
Nationalists – or white people if you like – have a propensity towards non-violent activities because the coward gene is prevalent and so are literally writing themselves into oblivion: Look! Here comes the enemy! Let us show them what we have penned and they will no longer bully us!
If the enemy did not fear violence above all else they would not strive so diligently to disarm and emasculate us. When I say there is no measure as to how far the enemy within will go in order to kill us off, all you need to do is observe the latest attack on America by Americans just so that another notch on the ratchet of removing guns from the citizen can be implemented.

Yes sadly might is often right even when it’s wrong, the winner then writes the history books.
My feeling is that the latest atrocity will be put down to domestic terrorism, though some are crying false flag already.
I’m not sure what the point of it is, apart from keeping people fearful & insecure.

I think the idea of praising or not of other teams is partly a divide & rule strategy used amongst people who are otherwise very similar.
Look at Northern Ireland where you have similar people at each others throats for years but now a heavy influx of the 3rd world is present all pretending to be Irish & some of that welcomed by those who wanted Brits out!

Jared Taylor continually highlights the most important problem white countries are facing, the changing racial demographics. That’s not an easy thing to do in this age of politically correct censorship. Furthermore, he’s cogent and articulate and his reputation is untarnished, unlike so many others who advocate on behalf of European peoples.
To describe him as ‘controlled opposition’ is risible and ridiculously stupid. He’s perhaps the greatest asset we have.

Likewise, rather than cursorily being dismissed, I think that Jared Taylor has done a great deal of work for advancing the arguments for White Nationalism. This is an achievement which goes beyond his familiar remit (or speciality) of the United States.

I think he has done a great service throughout the last 20 years in order to try to imbibe a sense of racial identity and consciousness to his fellow-men. He has probably done more on this task than many nationalist groups in this country have managed to achieve in the same period of time.

Jared has been involved with explicitly White themed mainstream television appearances, state-wide radio appearances, university speeches. He has a very popular website; he holds yearly conferences and networks with other like-minded pro-White groups.
.
He’s also been involved with the New Century Foundation, the National Policy Institute and I believe he used to have broadcasts of his events on C-SPAN public cable TV. Then there are the very useful internet video clips he produces that explain his positions on race-realism, the books he has written (and so on).

I do not think he shies away from what he believes in, covering it up with the usual traits of “controlled opposition” groups – such as a focus only on ‘over-crowding’ or other “dog-whistle” political positions which may all be valid but are not necessarily the ultimate issue at stake.

Through all this, he is going to be responsible for many ‘converts’ to the cause – as well a strengthening of those existing positions in others. Jared has therefore hardly been “wasting time” for the interests of Whites in my view.

I would not feel at all comfortable to just brush him off as a time-waster because he keeps clear of a certain issue and does not mechanically make every article, every topic and every issue ever imaginable revolve around the influence of the Jews.

In fact, I think it would be more pragmatic and rational for us to take people like Jared for what they are and what they can do for our interests. How we use them is up to us.

Either we can spend our time knocking them down or issuing throw-away quips to knock their efforts, or we can take what they offer and build upon it for our own interests. One approach is entirely negative and sows dissatisfaction whilst the other approach is positive. It should not be that difficult a decision as to which approach is best.

I find it highly unlikely that somebody who has been involved in these circles for as long as he has does not have some rudimentary knowledge of what people are talking about when it comes to Jewish Peoples and their roles throughout history.

What his true insight is and what his views are on them are unknown to me, and they may well differ from our own, but rather than read some sort of conspiracy into it, he may just seek to keep the American Renaissance organisation a little bit more focussed on the role of White Identity (and why it should be encouraged and supported by his fellow Americans) instead. This is perhaps something that he feels more able to help with.
When you look at the general output of American Renaissance (and the content of this article) it is obviously more orientated around a different aspect of the cause. He is specifically promoting ‘race realism’, ‘white advocacy’ and expressing the rights for our collective survival, including the role of mutual separatism in order to achieve that. That seems to be his cause, his agenda, or ‘his thing’.

Despite what we may know, think or feel, it should not necessarily be a requirement for every single site relating to White interests to be dominated with discussions over the Jews and their role in every aspect of everything that can ever possibly be imagined.

Yes, it is important. Yes, it has to be recognised in order to get the roots of many problems we face (and to try to prevent further ones). I just think it is better to accept that different sites and different pathways can bring different things to the table. Sometimes it can even be to our advantage.

Not everybody can handle or “graduate” straight away to a further understanding of what roles have been played by that group in consideration to our problems anyway. Can it really be denied that a societal construct has been erected (by these people) where any negative or factual mention of them scares people off or just confuses them over what our messages and vantage points over them really are?

It takes some people years to get into the real picture and to understand the points being made. I think it is entirely unrealistic to just expect people to jump in, understand and pour meticulously over every word as gospel – especially when somebody is talking *AT* them rather than with them. That is the reality of the situation as I see it, no matter how many people would prefer it to be otherwise.

Most people do not like being told what to think and believe anyway. They like to find out for themselves and think they have come to their own conclusions.

A constant attitude towards them and a wider readership that they are “not up to speed”, “not up to scratch” or are “not in the know” (and being scornful of those who are not as far down the track as some of us have gone) – or that people are just plain “cowards” and “spineless” for not engaging in harsh/explicit rhetoric, no matter how counterproductive it could be to their aims, is one that is very likely to turn ordinary people off.

People do not usually want to be lectured or pulled up and cross-examined on every little thing either. They are usually already on our side, or could be so, if they are flirting around these circles and are in the process of making up their minds.

We should therefore be encouraging them and nudging them gently towards being able to understand and handle these matters correctly instead of treating them with contempt or making them feel “ignorant” because they are not specialists in niche information about the role of world Jewry, history, or other aspects of the cause.

The attitude and methodology of how we create and sustain a growing movement is important to get right. Without basic ‘people skills’, a rudimentary sense of how people tick or how to build a strong support base, we are likely to continue to just be talking to ourselves in angry and despairing little circles and will continue being the irrelevancy we have always largely been as a movement throughout previous decades.

I feel that any site or organisation which refuses to acknowledge this will never be able to engage with a wider audience than those who are already converted and dedicated to the cause.

They may forever be wondering why the “sheeple” are not supporting their positions and still questioning why ‘so called’ leaders are not out there belligerently ranting away about the Jews and “filth” to those very same “brainwashed sheeple” they so often describe. It does not even make logical sense to me when you put the two things together. There has to be some conduit organisations. They may not come to see that they could have developed a bit of a self-awareness problem and that they could have lost contact with the common man on the street.

I do not really wish for Western Spring to head the same way as many others have gone before it.

There are many different levels to what is going on, so I think that some sites do need to be in existence in order to collect people up and instil in them a different message first, or plainly reinforce aspects of why we are all here.

For example:-

# Providing people with a greater sense of awareness of their racial ties (and why they should not feel ashamed of those feelings).
.
# Making them understand why multiracial societies are problematic and how they will not lead to successful civilisation, despite what they are told by “progressives” and what they may fool themselves into believing, if only we adjusted ‘poverty’ and ‘welfare’ and ‘waved the same flag’ etc. I think it is our task to try to rescue semi-awake people from the clutches of the David Goodharts and any other ‘civic’ dreamers.

# Making them realise that they are not alone in their thoughts as to how things are going out there and that their general discomfort about it is shared. (Anybody who has even briefly studied the Asch Conformity test knows how important this is).
.
# To create a sense in them of a collective unity and shared interests to their fellow folk in the nation (and between all nations consisting of European Peoples).
.
# To help them understand and face up to the dynamics of what happens when demographics shift in cities and those nations as a whole – and why it will not be any different to the trend wherever they happen to live.
.
# To make them realise what is at stake, what is coming down the track at a national and global level, and make them think about why they should care and take some kind of action if they can, no matter how small.
.
# To give people the arguments and the tools with which to defend themselves and their points of view.
.
Many people may support where we are generally coming from, but many of those people would collapse in a heap when they are robustly challenged over their statements or opinions. Even some long-term nationalists can struggle to collect things together in short exchanges.
.
Giving people confidence and skills to counter opponents properly is something worthwhile. There is often no need to even mention the Jews as a part of this defensive position (The excellent ‘Folk and Nation’ booklet produced by Arthur Kemp is one example).
.
# To get people to support the benefits of nationalism and nationalist policies on a whole range of concerns, not only in terms of race and identity, but in terms of self-sufficiency, societal positions, economics, health, law and order, etc.
.
(Eg. Why are our positions superior and why should people trust their future to us? – What can make us attractive and a positive force that people seek out and wish to join?).
.
If people are not happily and securely on these rungs of the ladder first, then informing them of all other things would be a bit of a pointless exercise.
.
Why would they be interested in deeper explanations as to how we arrived at this junction if they still do not deeply care what the ultimate destination is going to be anyway? If we are not making some progress in collecting and maintaining a racially conscious following at the base, then surely we are failing.
.
Do people understand or appreciate why we are mentioning these deeper things? Even if they grasped a bit of the concepts, what are we going to do about it? There are no real practical answers being provided for them. It can feel like a dead-end of despair and hopelessness. Who is going to support that? People want to back winners.
.
Western Spring – in my view – is trying to figure out possibilities of what can be done, considering the current state of opinions and factors in this country.
.
Even if people are caring about the future of our nation, but are not experts or historians (and have no interest in philosophers or the Bolsheviks or whatever), what kinds of issues may interest them, what will keep them in our net long enough to set them on a correct path, and what kinds of positions and propositions would they feel able to go on and propagate on our behalf?
.
I think that Jared Taylor and sites like his American Renaissance help take up that kind of role. It is a job which I think they pretty well. It is presentable, articulate, it has plenty of good articles, it provides a good resource for when you need debating ammunition and is a hub for like-minded folk to get together.

The same might be said for Western Spring, though it comes at things from yet another vantage point, one which I feel is a little better thanks to its British feel and a more positive “New Right”/”Identitarian” attitude.
.
I suspect that most ‘curious’ people and half-hearted people who come to sites like this and American Renaissance will ultimately come to grasp the issues discussed – and will in turn then tend to circulate through other sites that get mentioned, such as V-Dare, Altright, Taki, Occidental Observer, Occidental Quarterly, Counter-Currents, maybe the National Front, British Democratic Party, British Resistance, etc, as well as watch links from YouTube and elsewhere, listen to podcasts, seek out particular writers and so on – where they can learn other deeper matters for themselves, at their own pace and taste.

To thrust the Jewish issue onto all sites, all articles, all the time, is going to be counter-productive in my view. It also gets pretty monotonous and just as tedious as those who can do nothing but talk about “Koranimals”, “paedostanis” and Islam.
.
There are also often more ways to go about the same things too, it does not always need to be so overt. Sometimes it is the message that counts, not how there has become a need for a message in the first place. Alex Kurtagic’s ‘Masters of the Universe’ speech being a prime example.

On that, I have noticed some criticism of this site and the articles presented here – for them not highlighting the Jewish aspect of some matters contained within them, even when that matter is not even the focus of the debate or the even thrust of the issue to be considered.

If Western Spring and the Movement for National Salvation’s main objective to was to “name the Jew” and reveal “the truth” about absolutely everything all the time as some sort of “truth movement” about world Jewry – then I can understand frustration by some people that they are not doing this in every article and not shoe-horning it in to the narrative at every single opportunity.

However, to my current knowledge, that is *not* the objective of Western Spring and the Movement for National Salvation. I may stand to be corrected by the folks at Western Spring.
.
I believe they have a strategy and a task which they have to try to bring in to operation. One which may need more subtlety, more care and more variety given to their output – so that it suits those particular aims and objectives before any other objective (such as them being a “truth movement” site).
.
I cannot speak for Western Spring, but if this is generally true, then I think that Western Spring and the Movement for National Salvation should not become a hobby-horse outlet for an objective and narrative which is not strictly its own. There are plenty of other places that cover those other grounds and cater for that objective – I do not think we are in desperate need of yet another one.

What we *are* in desperate need of is a clean and positive force in nationalism that keeps on track to its intent. Not another one that comes to heave with desperation, negativity, plots and conspiracies, however true they may be and how justified they may be.
.
I therefore do not think that Western Spring should lose sight of why it was established by being drawn into these webs or risk being pushed along by a crowd or commentary which often seems as though it would not ever be satisfied until it exactly mirrors their own sites, studies, interests and approaches. Nor should it feel it has to succumb to publishing foul language, crude epithets or any other childish and nonsensical statements of flippant bravado. They are neither clever or helpful.

It seems clear to me that Western Spring (and those who write for it) are not unfamiliar with or “afraid” of the Jewish Question. Unlike political parties, it has a more advantageous hand when it comes to what it can discuss – and it therefore quite rightly chooses to take some advantage of this ‘freedom’.

But it also seems to me that those in Western Spring are mindful of the situation of play out there in our societies in the real world, not just the nationalist bubble we inhabit – that they recognise they may have a role to fulfil that bridges the gap between us nationalists and those who are perhaps on the cusp of nationalism (or finding their feet in nationalism), so that they can come with us and help us build a better future for ourselves as a people.

Education is indeed part of this, and therefore the Jewish Question is bound to come up as part of a rounded view of what the situation is – and so it should – but I think Western Spring have the balance right when it comes to the JQ and how it is dealt with. I do not think it should be expected to become their obsession or always be the sole focusof their output.

Despite my waffling, of which I am aware, I actually agree with Kenny. There needs to be a refreshed focus as to what we do and where we go from here. Superfluous topics and investigations which are not strictly conducive in helping establish a future for ourselves need to be culled or reduced.

What are our objectives? How do we need to get there? What can we do? These things are arguably just as important than us all dying off in the knowledge that we were proven to be right all along about a hidden hand steering our fate, or labouring under the impression that if only the “truth” was told to everybody, some veil will suddenly lift from their eyes and they will bolt upright and rise to the challenge with a new-found racial fervour.

Spending all our time seeking “the truth” over everything is not necessarily the same thing as establishing a future for ourselves. One does not necessarily automatically stem from the other. I think it is often more an exercise in satisfying a curiosity, pursuing a hobby, or being a study group of the phenomena that we are up against, whilst time actually slips through our fingers. It is interesting, it is intriguing, but we should never take our eyes off the actual prize.

We are always in retrospect and dancing to the tune provided for us, never putting our own tune forward to block out their noise. I think Western Spring is more about orchestrating our own tune, with an important appreciation of the fact that a powerful counter-orchestra is also in play around us. This is one reason why I think it is so good. It knows what the score is and is trying to work with some of that in mind.

An insight into these matters is indeed helpful to have and it should be subtly encouraged, but if that insight is not focussed or turned into some practical use, then the insight some profess to have is perhaps pretty useless in the end. In fact, some might say that “time waster” Jared Taylor would have done us more useful work.
