I doubt if many visitors to this site believe that the purpose of the Conservative party is actually to conserve anything other than the wealth of those who already have it. But if there are any such, they should be disabused by the reaction of Migrationwatch UK to our Pakistani Home Secretary’s new post-Brexit immigration policy:
“The proposal to admit an unlimited number of low skilled workers from a range of countries is astonishing. A visa limited to twelve months could well become a means of fiddling the immigration figures since they do not count as immigrants unless they intend to be here for more than a year. Furthermore there is no way in which their departure could be enforced. At present the Home Office is only able to compulsorily remove 9,000 immigration offenders per year so this route risks spiralling out of control.
In any case, the benefit to our economy of low-skilled immigration is extremely limited. It creates a lower wage and lower productivity economy, as the chairman of the Government’s own Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) has pointed out. It is shocking that the Government should have caved in so completely to the demands of industry while ignoring the strong public desire to get immigration down. They will not even review it until 2025.
As for skilled migrants, the suggestion that this route should be open to the entire world with no cap is very unwise. There will no longer be a requirement for employers to join a register so anyone could bring in workers from abroad. Nor is there a requirement first to advertise a job in the British press so the numbers could be even higher.
For workers claiming to be skilled, the only hurdle will be a salary level yet to be defined but, as the MAC have pointed out, salary levels can be manipulated.
The Government’s proposal would not deliver anything like ‘control’ over immigration. They risk replacing free movement of labour from the EU with almost free movement from around the world. If implemented, a unique chance to restore public confidence would be hopelessly squandered.
Lord Green of Deddington, Chairman of Migrationwatch UK, said: ‘These are shocking proposals which run completely against the current of public opinion and which are likely to result in even more massive levels of immigration. The chief winners from this White Paper will be business, as they exploit the bonanza of a huge new pool of labour from around the world while continuing to avoid their responsibility to the public to recruit and train up local talent. The chief losers will be young people who are trying to find work or get on the housing ladder. More widely, even current levels of immigration are already a real concern for those who are worried about our increasingly overcrowded country and who wish to preserve our way of life for future generations.”
Migrationwatch’s concern is well merited. During 2017 there was a net immigration into the UK of some 227,000 people from outside the EU and 101, 000 from within. Immigration from the EU is diminishing quite quickly, but the reverse is happening to immigration from outside – that figure of 227,000 represents an increase over the previous year of 51,000, mostly from India. This increase in immigration from outside is despite the fact that there is an annual cap of 20,700 (plus families) on Tier 2 visas. Tier 2 visas are issued to skilled workers, usually graduate level who will be earning at least 38,000 pounds per annum, and it almost always becomes permanent leave to remain. Employers have to have permission to recruit from outside the EU and can do so only if they can show that they have been unable to recruit within the UK.
All existing restrictions on Tier 2 visas are to swept away. Employers will now be able to recruit to posts requiring only A-level qualifications (hairdressers and newsvendors are now to be eligible for Tier 2 visas!). The salary level is to be reduced to only 30,000, and perhaps to as low as 21,000 following a consultation with business. Students at British universities from outside the EU are at present required to return home on completing their studies and 97% do so – in future they will be able to stay on for six months to look for one of those Tier 2 jobs for which they are newly qualified, and will not have to meet the 30,000 threshold.
It is very obvious that the Conservative Party has concluded that, far from reducing immigration post Brexit, it will replace – and more than replace – White immigrants from Europe with non-White from the rest of the world, and particularly from India, a country which has made it plain that it expects Tier 2 visas in exchange for trade. The Conservative Party has always prided itself on being the party for business, but it has always tended to balance that preference with a care – however flimsy – for the patriotic instincts of the electorate. That is why people have always looked to the Tories to keep immigration under control while expecting Labour, with its Internationalist prejudices, to be more relaxed. And during the seventies, eighties and nineties that is what the Tories did, by and large. No more – now the great god Profit trumps all.
Never has this country needed more urgently a political party dedicated to halting and reversing immigration. That such a party of the right can profoundly influence events is becoming ever more evident on the continent. In this country the “first past the post” electoral system inhibits such success, but even here the example of UKIP shows that a party can achieve great things without ever winning a seat. So where is that party?

If the Tories had listened to the British people on immigration their would not have been a need for Brexit..they are still not listening, The only way that mass immigration will stop will probably be through a Civil War.

The Conservative Party although consisting individually of good and patriotic people, is an organisation which would place the interests of business and trade above that of the country as a whole and in consequence new proposals to permit further non white immigration is hardly surprising. The LIBLABCON have betrayed the people of this country by allowing non white immigration to occur since the war when previously the country was racially homogenous.
It would be a supreme irony if a free movement of mostly white people from within the EU is replaced by a de facto free movement of non white people from outside Europe.The consequences are too alarming to contemplate.Even in terms of sheer numbers further immigration must be resisted with reference to the housing shortages, and demands on services and infrastructure. Our population needs to be reduced and not added to.

We would need far, far fewer immigrants if we invested in training according to our need. A manpower policy that relies on attracting people who have been trained at the expense of employers and institutions abroad is immoral – both in the terms discussed above and in terms of the plunder of skilled people from countries presumably in some need of those workers’ skills.
We know, for example, that we have to import doctors because the medical profession refuse to allow the government to train more doctors here – in order to keep their own remuneration and conditions elevated beyond their natural, market levels.
We know, too, that the centuries-old apprenticeship system has been pretty much destroyed – for short-term financial gain and the egos of those who can’t do, so they teach.
Nursing training, likewise, has been transformed into a profession requiring a degree – all to boost the pay, conditions and relative status of ambitious nurses focused on the top rungs of the professional ladder.
Over a decade ago, when I knew little about Nick Griffin, I listened to a speech by him on national industrial policy. That speech gripped me and changed my political outlook within a few minutes.

The government’s white paper on post Brexit immigration reforms was the result of consultations with ‘stakeholders’ which means that they are proposing the immigration regime that employers want. In particular the proposal to issue unlimited temporary visas to applicants from ‘low risk’ countries should set alarm bells ringing in our heads because in the context of immigration temporary always means permanent. This looks like it could be a repeat of the fiasco of immigration under New Labour when hundreds of thousands of ‘temporary’ visas were issued to unskilled workers although the government neither had the will or the means to enforce their departure. Rather than appear powerless over enforcement and to placate employers who prefer not to have staff coming and going at short intervals the Balirites simply issued extensions to these ‘temporary’ visas and gave the holders unlimited leave to remain.

I believe that the only way to bring immigration under control is to have national leaders with an authoritarian bent and who are not afraid to break the rules or face down special interests. Leaders like Trump and Salvini, for instance. They also need to lead parties that are united behind them rather have than the situation that has existed with the Tories for some time where a weak leader has to contend with a cabinet majority opposed to the party’s election pledge to bring net immigration down to the hundreds of thousands. The toughest challenge for such a leader would be to cap visas for intra company transfers in violation of an international treaty and thus probably provoke retaliation from the governments of the countries from which the immigrants originate. The second toughest challenge would be to drastically cap visas for international students or else deny them the right to remain after graduation while they look for a job. This would likely cause uproar and provoke a political push back, so it would take a prime minister with steely determination to see this through.
