Further Reflections on Brexit
Well, we did it. A first, indispensable, step has been taken towards the healing of our nation. The generations of the First and Second World Wars gave everything to save Britain from foreign domination and invasion, but the fear that the present generation might throw away their sacrifice has proved unfounded. We should thank God, rejoice and enjoy it for a day or two – and then get down to the arduous, long term business of completing the healing…
Rejoice!
Despite months of intense scaremongering by the Remain campaign, it now looks as though we are heading towards victory for the Leave campaign and a firm vote in favour of the UK leaving the European Union. As of 05:15am this morning the Leave campaign have received 15,437,289 votes, compared to 14,328,314 for the Remain campaign, placing Leave on a 51.9% share of the vote counted so far and 1,108,975 votes ahead. Already Nigel Farage has given the…
What’s the Point of a Points Based System?
You will have seen that both of the pro-Brexit factions – the Tory dominated VoteLeave and the UKIP dominated Leave.eu – want to introduce what they call an “Australian-style points based immigration system” in the event that we leave the EU. That we should leave is profoundly to be desired for all sorts of reasons which have already been well rehearsed on Western Spring, but not least because a country which cannot control its borders…
An Unnatural Growth
We have now been able to enjoy yet another episode in the “Project Fear” story as Dave and George ramp up their vision of a post-apocalypse Britain should we peasants dare to defy the global establishment and vote for freedom. This ghastly vision does cause one to wonder, and I am by no means the first to notice, what on earth did our Prime Minister think he was doing when he ordered a referendum knowing…
Brexit – The Movie
Another highly informative video outlining the dangers facing us as a nation if we get it wrong and vote to stay in the European Union on 23rd June. This video has been produced by people who are from a variety of backgrounds politically, and includes contributions from people with whom we would make very strange bed-fellows, but we should not let that detract from the information it contains and the powerful message contained. Please make sure that…
Brexit: The (animated) Movie
As the EU Referendum approaches we must all direct as many people as possible to sources of good information about the pro’s and con’s and the following video is an excellent example of good information presented in a compelling way: Please share this video with all of your friends and family. Max Musson 2016 # # # # JOIN WESTERN SPRING Western Spring is not just a website. We are a community of people dedicated…
All is Race!
You will all have seen that piece in the papers about the nursery group in Lincolnshire downgraded by Ofsted because it didn’t have any ethnic minorities among the children. This follows a similar downgrading last year for a primary school in the same town. I suppose most of us will have had the same reaction; a weary shake of the head at yet more daft political correctness coupled with the wish that everywhere in England…
The Great Divide
I think it was last week that I was sitting on a Metropolitan Line train reading a copy of the London Evening Standard (glad it’s a free sheet now, it’s certainly not worth good money) and a remark by Baroness Lane-Fox caught my eye. Those of you with good memories may recall the noble lady as plain Martha Lane-Fox who had something to do with the “dot com boom” at the beginning of the millennium.…
Stronger, Safer, Better Off – Out!
After a great deal of huffing and puffing, of late night dramas, of last minute crises, of shirt sleeved “battling for Britain”, Mr. Cameron got his “deal”, just as we always knew he would; and it was an empty husk just as we had always known it would be. But it may be enough to deliver him the victory which he craves for he is undoubtedly an effective campaigner, and he has on his side not…
