Fascist Chic in Finchley

By Max Musson:

What are the best-dressed European nationalists street activists wearing nowadays, one might ask? And where should you shop if your aim is to achieve a look that subtly blends the casual style of modern youth fashion with lines, folkish artwork and motifs suggestive of something a little harder, something rather more ‘edgy’ from a nationalist perspective, dare we say it, with a certain fascist chic?

The answer can be found, it would seem by paying a visit to the newly established Viking Thor shop in Ballards Lane, North Finchley, where owner Mr Zsolt Mogyorodi sells clothing from the increasingly popular Thor Steinar range that has been widely adopted by young nationalists on the continent.

Thor Steinar, a German company, produce a range of jackets, jeans, T-shirts, underwear and accessories for both men and women which is Nordic and Viking themed with rune-based motifs and logos that are suggestive of the kind of heraldry associated with the Europe of the 1930s.

Mr Mogyorodi claims that there is no intentional link with nationalist politics and seems genuinely concerned by the adverse attention he has attracted from London’s Jewish population, although in 2012, Thor Steinar named a new German store ‘Brevik’, which critics claimed was in honour of the infamous Norwegian, Anders Behring Breivik and in Germany Thor Steinar is widely associated with the German nationalist party the NPD.

Coincidentally, according to the Jewish Chronicle Mr Mogyorodi’s  shop is situated just yards from the office of Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis, and this has led to North London Unite Against Fascism and various Jewish groups including the Community Security Trust, staging a number of protests outside.

However, in view of the difficulties that Mr Mogyorodi faces, it would be rather impolite of us not to support his shop and I would suggest to any of our younger supporters living in the London area  that if they are in the market for some stylish outdoor clothing, the Viking Thor shop might be a promising place to visit.

  1. I saw this item on the news a few weeks ago. It might have been on R.T News or even the mainstream BBC/ITV news channels.
    .
I’d never heard of the brand before, but I was kind of pleased that there was some kind of decent looking clothing being produced for a youth culture – one that was seen to be a bit boundary pushing and ‘edgy’….terms which the “liberals” have had a monopoly on for far too long.
    .
Watching the usual suspects bleat and squirm about it only seemed to lend it more credibility…..however, it turned out that the clothing manufacturer is now owned by Arabs, and has been since about 2009. It was mentioned somewhere in a news report I saw – and a quick internet search seems to suggest that this is still the case, although I may well stand to be corrected.
    .
This may put some people in a bit of a dilemma, because on the one hand it seems to be a fashion brand that can be adopted as part of a counter-culture amongst the 18-35 age group (and I see no harm in that)…….but on the other hand, if it is still the case that it is owned by Arabs in Dubai (or actually manufactured by such people in poor conditions like we see in Pakistan for Primark, something which I do not know), how credible is it for the nationalistically conscious to wear it with full pride?
    .
Maybe the driving effect of the counter-culture pushing ‘youth apparel’ has to come first, despite some drawbacks as to who ultimately owns the business. I suppose that driving this counter-culture forward and gaining some kind of wider recognition is more important for the long-term than being standoff-ish over the ultimate owners of the brand in the here and now.
    .
My initial thoughts when I saw the news item was that I should buy something in support of their opening there in London, which is of course now a ‘white minority’ capital city. I now fall outside of the 18-35 bracket, lol, but it is something I may still consider doing, if only for a pair of jeans or a hat or something. I shall have to give it some thought and see what others here have to say about it.

  2. I got a good winter coat from Thor Steiner on line. Looks like something a panzer tank driver may have worn. Very warm. And very very cool. But I must point out all their gear is made in China.

    1. I received a couple of items from Germany recently & looked very carefully at the packaging & labelling & there is no indication where they’re made now.
The bar code on the bags starts with a 4, so does that tell us anything?

  3. Thanks for that I didn’t realise they had an outlet here!
Points to consider, I believe the company is UAE owned & based?
The clothes are made in China, isn’t everything?
Breivik was/is a zionist & I saw a lot of supportive comments in favour from him on the internet that appeared to be from zionists, his atrocity was on the anniversary of the King David hotel bombing.
The Norwegian government is considered anti Semitic by zionists & pro Palestinian.
Where does Mr Mogyorodi hail from, Egypt?
That said I would be interested in having a look at it.

    1. I did wonder about the provenance of the company Thor Steinar. It is described in the mass media as a German company, but the various outlets appear to be franchised. I suspect the owner of the Finchley shop may be Eastern European, possibly Hungarian, but I don’t actually know at present.

  4. They’ve got some good stuff. A bit pricey mind, but you can easily see this selling into the bored but trendy m/c – to the annoyance of the left et al.

      1. There’s a surcharge of a few Euros if you buy less than 100Euros worth.
But the London shop doesn’t appear to carry the whole range, though that might change in the future.

  5. It does neatly show up the hypocrisy accepted as normal, you could have a shop full of Che Guevara, Mao, Red Star T shirts & nobody would bat an eyelid.
It’s perfectly acceptable to show your allegiance to other countries but a bit iffy to be too white & proud of it.

    1. I could respond supportively to that with a humorous racial epithet, but I will be a good boy and resist the temptation. 😀

  6. Two years ago I attempted to buy some t-shirts from one of the German shops but in those days they didn’t accept Visa. They do now. I have yet to visit Finchley, but it’s next on my shopping list. (In the pubs and clubs in UK Thor Steinar isn’t, yet, associated with ‘right wing’ but you won’t be allowed into Borrosia Dortmund’s ground (and a few others) wearing any Steinar gear. Nor in the Bunderstag building 😉 ).

    1. I guess the way round that is a pair of their underwear or a vest, sometimes they do socks too or a belt.

  7. Dale of Deornoth

    - Edit

Top shop only five or so stops on bus from Golders Green National Express stop, good pub over road does a fine good old English breakfast.
