Mark Collett – 2018 Jonathan Bowden Oratory Prize Nominee

We are pleased to announce that the second nominee for the 2018 Jonathan Bowden Oratory Prize is another leading personality within British nationalism — at one time the youth leader and head of publicity for the British National Party — now an author and regular podcaster and speaker at high profile nationalist events, Mark Collett.

Mark has been nominated for the excellent speech he made at last year’s John Tyndall Memorial Meeting and  what was probably the best speech of his life, drawing a parallel between on the one hand the qualities of excellence and determination that he saw in John Tyndall and the quality of excellence that our people once exhibited, and on the other hand, the determination we need to exhibit if we are to regain that excellence and forge a future that honours the legacy of our forebears.

Most notably, this speech was a masterful exhibition of emotive oratory evoking within the audience successive waves of intensely gut wrenching frustration in the face of unpleasant truths, with moments of respite and at times euphoric relief as Mark outlined the key factors needed for our eventual salvation.

Mark also has the ability to speak for extended periods of time, either without notes, or without the need to regularly refer to them. This enables a speaker to maintain eye contact with his audience and to read and respond to the mood of that audience — vital in someone who aspires to become an exceptional orator. Mark also speaks clearly and relatively slowly, and this allows him time to add emphasis and convey the passion he feels for his subject.

  1. Oh, I had the privilege of listening to that speech in the flesh (at a very well done meeting). He came to a rousing crescendo just after the middle of his speech, and I thought “oh no, he’s shot the bolt to soon!” But then after stepping back the pace came back to an even more powerful end! I was damn sure to be the first on my feet after that one clapping away.

Funny story (I hope Mark doesn’t mind me saying) in the break after I was chatting away with folk and then saw Mark momentarily unattended. I popped over to say hello again and congratulate him on his speech. After saying as much I looked at him expectantly and he had a look on his face I couldn’t place – and bulging cheeks? Lol! It turns out he had just scarfed a WHOLE cream bun in one go the very moment he had turned to face me so he didn’t get crumbs down his suit and he couldn’t speak for at least 30 seconds while I stood there perplexed! I guess you had to be there 🙂 but not often you see him stuck for words!
