All is Race

The fairy tale may not have ended, but it has taken a staggering blow. I write of course of the place in our monarchy of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. At the time of their marriage and subsequently, when young Archie was baptised, a number of articles appeared on Western Spring * deploring this mixed race relationship. Most particularly we drew attention to the main stream media’s quite disgusting grovelling at the feet of Ms. Markle precisely because she is not white.

Now that the couple are decoupling from our Royal Family the race issue has sprung to prominence again, as it was always bound to do. The blame game has taken on a fiercely political dimension. The Left has decided that we Brits have driven out the Markle woman with our racism. Here’s a piece from the New York Times by Afua Hirsch: “Her [Markle’s] treatment has proved what many of us have always known – no matter how beautiful you are, whom you marry, what palaces you occupy, charities you support, how faithful you are, how much money you accumulate or what good deeds you perform, in this society racism will still follow you”. Ms Hirsch is the half black, quarter Jewish, writer who, you may remember, advocated the demolition of Nelson’s column a year or two ago because it’s a symbol of – believe it or not – “racism and imperialism”.

Ms Hirsch reflects the perspective of the Left, namely that Britain is an innately and increasingly racist country. To which we can only respond “would that it were so!” It is difficult for us to understand that perspective because it goes against all that our senses tell us of conditions in a country whose government and institutions bend over backwards to prove how painfully anti-racist they are. So what evidence does the Left present? The evidence appears to be the criticism to which the Duchess was subjected over her extravagant baby shower, her gas guzzling air miles and so on. The Left believes that that criticism is evidence of a racist undertone. Clearly the critics have forgotten the far crueller treatment which the media meted out to Fergie (“Duchess of Pork”), to Camilla and to others; but they are only White women.

Hirsch’s suggestion, and others like it, has raised a storm of denial on the main stream media Right. Essentially the denial is a repeat of the pro race-mixing guff which we saw a couple of years ago – all that stuff about Markle bringing the Royal Family “zapping into the twenty first century”. Here’s a typical example of very many; it’s by Tony Parson’s and appeared in the Sun on the 12th January: “What a waste of Harry and Meghan’s unique chance to be a living, inspirational representation of the multi-racial country in which we now live”…” And can we finally nail the great lie that Meghan has been persecuted in the UK because of her mixed race? When she first appeared Meghan was a hurricane of fresh air. The British looked at her and it was love at first sight. This weary, divided, Brexit battered nation was delighted to have an injection of Hollywood glamour. And millions of Brits now live in mixed race families. There was real delight to see the Royal Family catching up with the rest of us. Among those crowds at Windsor on their wedding day I saw families of every race and creed under the sun who were ecstatic to see the Royal Family becoming less white, more inclusive, more representative.”

You don’t have to wait for a Royal wedding to see “families of every race and creed” in Windsor; you can see them every day of the year because it’s a tourist town and most of them are foreigners! Anyway, I’m pleased that they were “ecstatic” to see the Royal Family becoming less white; no doubt Mr. Parson’s hopes that everything will become “less white”, perhaps to the point where there is no white visible at all! I wonder what would have become of Mr. Parson’s career had he hoped that the West Indies cricket team might become less black?

One thing that all of these media pieces have in common is a gross exaggeration of the extent of race mixing. Several tell us that “nearly one in ten relationships is mixed”. This figure comes from the 2011 census which found that 9% of relationships (marriages and cohabitations) were “interethnic”. What our media friends do not tell us is that most interethnic relationships are invisible – White British/White Irish, Black African/Black Caribbean, Indian/Pakistani. Nor do they tell us that the proportion of relationships in which one partner is White British and the other is non-White is just under 1.4%. In other words “interethnic” is not the same as mixed race. But let there be no room for complacency on our part – although the position is not as bad as the media would have us believe, race mixing remains an ever-present and growing threat to our racial identity; 6.3% of primary school children in England in 2019 were mixed race.

So why does any of this matter? Do we as racialists give two hoots that Harry and Markle are no longer going to be functioning royals on this side of the Atlantic? Should we be pleased that they are no longer going to be race mixing icons in our midst, and wish them good riddance? Yes all of that, but it still matters because whether we are viewing these issues from a Left wing perspective, or from the perspective of the main stream media, or from a racialist perspective, it reminds everyone that it is all about race – and that is good for us because race is our thing. In the immortal words of Benjamin Disraeli – “All is race, there is no other truth.”
